LABOR AT THE STATE SUPREME COURT OF NM

UNM Hospital and the National Union for Health Care Employees District 1199NM have been involved in a labor dispute for the last 2,5 years.

The collective bargaining agreement went to impasse and was heard by a federal mediator who sided with the union. UNM appealed the decision to District Court. They have a deep war chest and can afford to spend money on attorneys.

The District Court judge sided with UNM Hospital. The membership of NUHCE voted to appeal it to the State Supreme Court. Our case was finally selected to be heard on Monday, May 17, 2010 at the Pamela Minzner State Court of Appeals Building right next to the UNM Law School at 10 a.m.

This is the first labor contract to be heard at the State Supreme Court - ever in New Mexico.

For those of you who support social and economic justice, we ask you to help join in the cause for justice on Monday, May 17th at 10 a.m. Seating is only allowed for 60 people. Please help fill in the seats for justice for these 400 hard working employees who carry the burden for 1500 staff members.
